Google has been more frequent in updating their search engine algorithms, and it makes or break a blog with every single update. My own blogs have been hit by these updates badly, though I recovered from it, not everyone is lucky.
And, even if someone manages to keep the visitors flowing through their website via Google Search, there is always this fear that the next update might ruin this. Exactly same thing happened to me in January, where I lost traffic on few of my blogs. Few months have passed and I can report that only one blog got the traffic back and the other is still struggling with more than 50% traffic loss in an the January update.
This was the time I decided to be more serious in looking for other sources of traffic rather than relying on a single one. I have been focussing on a number of ways to get the traffic. Some I am working on and some are yet to be acted upon. Here are the ones I am using right now, with Good positive results.
Social Media
Social Media can be a great source of traffic to your blog, you will get a better quality visitors than Search Engine Traffic. Let me simplify the word for you, Social media is a thing you do on a regular basis on the internet, that is networking with people online on social networking sites etc.
If you really have got the art of communicating with people, Social Media can be a goldmine for your business. even if you are not that cool, you will manage to grab enough eyeballs for your blog. just make the maximum use of Twitter, Facebook, Digg etc (the list is endless).
PPC/CPC Programs
Sometimes people think that Pay Per Click and Cost Per click programs are a way to make money and it will not be good to sign up as an advertiser. Well, I sign up for it and got around 5000 unique visitors to my blog in a month by using Google Adwords. Those 5000 Visitors cost me $140. But I did not spend that much.
I simply used a Coupon which you can get from Digital Point Forum for as low as $25. You can also try Bidvertiser which offers $20 Free at the Time of Sign up.You can utilize PPC programs by creating a special page where you offer your best content and an option to subscribe to your blog, You will be getting at least 5% of Subscriptions from 5000 visitors (this is the worst case). That means you will end up having 250 subscribers for your blog with an investment of $25.
Facebook Ads
Facebook lets you reach crazy number of people, which is directly proportional to the amount of money you are ready to spend. I tried boosting my posts and reached 1000% people than a normal post does. I spent less than $10 for that. I think that is a great idea to promote your best content on Facebook and reach as many people you want.
Banner Advertisement
You can also try buying banners ads on related blog and websites. Buy Sell Ads is one of the most popular services out there which offers a number of blogs in every category, you can buy ads and benefit from the traffic on other blogs. It can work really well for your post that compare products and has affiliate links contain so that you make some commission when someone buys your mentioned product via your link.
Blog Commenting
I have created a list of blogs that are related to mine, and leave comments on them, I think its been done by every blogger ever since blogging has become popular, but it still works, especially when you comment on a related blog, people who land your blog tend to like your content as well.
This is what I have been doing these days to get more people visit my blog than relaying on a single source, I may write another post extending this topic, I’ll leave the link here if I do so.
